Snikfiske – also known as vertical handline fishing or pole fishing – is a traditional method where a long line is set vertically in the sea. Several baited hooks are attached to short leaders along the line. This is a popular and efficient technique, especially for catching redfish.
How it works:
A snik consists of a line with a float at the top and a weight at the bottom. Hooks with bait are attached along the line. When the snik is dropped into the water, the weight sinks and keeps the line tight, while the float keeps the top upright. Fishing takes place while the snik stands still in the sea, and after a few hours, it is hauled back up.
Benefits of snikfiske:
Works well at various depths
Requires little effort once set
Easy to use, even for beginners
Exciting to haul up and see what’s caught
Tips for success:
Use fresh mackerel, herring, or shrimp as bait
For species like ling or tusk, try depths between 80 and 200 meters
Let the snik stay in the water for 3–4 hours before hauling it up
Snikfiske is perfect for a calm day at sea. It can easily be combined with a boat trip or a day at the shore, offering both relaxation and the excitement of a surprise catch.
