Sneak Fishing – a simple and effective way to fish
Sneak fishing – also known as pole fishing or the use of a sneak line – is a method where one fishes with a long line that stands vertically in the water. On the line, there are several baited hooks attached with short leaders. This is a popular method for fishing for various species, especially redfish.
This is how it works:
A sneak consists of a line with a float (buoyancy) at the top and a weight at the bottom. Along the line, hooks with bait are attached. When you drop the sneak into the water, the weight sinks down and keeps the line taut. The float keeps the top up. Fishing takes place while the sneak remains still in the water, and after a few hours, it is pulled up again.
Advantages of sneaky fishing:
Works well at various depths
Requires little effort along the way
Easy to use, even for beginners
Exciting to check what has bitten
Tips for success:
Use fresh mackerel, herring, or shrimp as bait
For fish like ling or cusk, try depths between 80 and 200 meters
Leave the sneaky line in the water for 3–4 hours before pulling it up
Sneaky fishing is perfect for a relaxing day on the water, and you can easily combine it with a boat trip or a beach outing. You don’t have to keep an eye on it all the time – and maybe there’s a surprise waiting at the end of the line!
